Inspired by K is for Keep Trying No Matter How Hard it Seems – DALAI LAMA -LIVE ONE DAY AT A TIME AND MAKE IT A MASTERPIECE

I am not a huge roller coaster fan, but I feel that life is like a roller coaster sometimes. The length of a second or a minute is the same in either, however, the perception of it varies depending on your personality or the particular situation. The highs are often fast paced while the lows are long lived. If you like it, you can’t get enough of it and long for more, but if it’s not your cup of tea, you can’t wait for it to be over and don’t want to go through it again. If you are orange, you thrive on the thrills and risks. But some people aren’t built for the ups and downs (yet), and end up “throwing up”.

Mindset is your power. To maneuver through the ups and downs you need to develop “Grit” (Angela Duckworth). When you fail, you may need some time to regroup – take the time if you need it, and if the situation allows for it. You may need to re-evaluate. What does this setback mean? Are you ready to continue on this path, or do you need to redirect? Don’t feel bad. There is value in each situation. Learn from it and grow. Build your resilience for the next challenge you face on the path of your life.

Be open-minded and open up all of your senses. You may need to work on this; practice mindfulness – it helps. Listen to your intuition – sometimes you feel it is or isn’t right, and sometimes you just know. Be open to the signs that are there all around you; sometimes we’re too busy to notice. If the signs are ignored, the price can be steep.

There will be hard times, but if you know this to be your truth, trust in it. Keep the faith, and don’t stop trying.

Focus. Persevere. Triumph.

Nurse Your Way Back to Health with a Plant

Taking care of plants can be very therapeutic. I can personally verify this. After my miscarriage, I was drawn to plants. Taking care of plants helped to redirect my focus during a difficult time. Appreciating the simple beauty of these unique floral arrangements then allowed me to experience gratitude in other areas of my life. Because they helped me to relax and bring me peace of mind, I started to feel better. That is why I have assembled these unique and beautiful plant terrariums. My hope is that they will help bring relaxation and peace of mind to anyone who needs this. Or maybe you know someone who could benefit from a gift like this?

I’m not the only one who feels that plants can benefit your health. Take a look at what is being said about the health benefits of plants:

“Researchers…found that plants in the office significantly increased workplace satisfaction, self-reported levels of concentration, and perceived air quality.”…“A study by Ulrich and Simons found that being exposed to natural settings and plants can reduce stress levels within a five-minute period.”

Plants in offices increase happiness and productivity – What was important was that everybody could see a plant from their desk. If you are working in an environment where there’s something to get you psychologically engaged you are happier and you work better,” Knight said.

The Healing Hand designs both Air Plant Terrariums and Tropical Plant Terrariums. Scroll down to learn more.

Air Plant Terrarium

Air Plant Terrarium with Cool Beach Theme

No time for a vacation to the beach, no problem!  Just stare into this terrarium and IMG_0489daydream about it!  It’s a unique item that’s sure to please.

So what is an air plant?  Well, its a special plant that can be placed just about anywhere.

This glass terrarium is about 8 1/2 inches tall by 5 inches, and it comes with everything you see.

To care for it, you need to either spray it or soak it once or a twice a week.  See how here.

Here is another variation of this cool beach theme!

If you’re interested in one of these unique gift ideas – please email me.

Tropical Plants Terrarium

Terrariums were popular during the Victorian Age and are making a comeback.  Gazing IMG_0567into a terrarium can have a very calming effect and be a good source of relaxation.

It could be a unique gift for that hard to buy for person, (or, better yet, treat yourself!)

This is a special and unique floral arrangement that is pretty easy to take care of.  Because a terrarium is somewhat enclosed, it helps to keep in moisture that tropical plants need.  A few sprays of room temperature water a couple of times a week should do the trick.  See how here.

And just so you’re all set, I’m including a spray bottle with the terrarium.

To give you an idea of the size – this terrarium is about 11 inches in height and the diameter is approximately 4 ¾ inches.

Here is another variation of a tropical plants terrarium.  This terrarium is about 8 inches in height and the diameter is approximately 7 ½ inches.  To make a purchase, please email The Healing Hand.

The Pond of Everlasting Hope

Here you will find a Collection of Ideas, Images, Meditations, Reflections, and Thoughts – These items resonate with me. I hope they will inspire you. Passion is the path to health. If you find your passion, you find your vitality and you revitalize. Stay on the path!

I have always liked poetry, both the reading of it and the writing of it. Here is one written by my younger self, at age 18.

The Pond of Everlasting Hope – a poem by Darlene Novak

In the back of the yard

Exists a pond, a man-made pond.IMG_0473

And in the summer

The pond was alive;

Flowers in bloomIMG_0581

Birds in tune

And the fish – yes – the goldfish

– So many together

So bound, forever

And then autumn fell

And the flowers were gone.

The birds, they too, flew away.

Honk! Honk!

The goldfish removed

To an indoor pond

To safety, to warmth

But a temporary home

All of them secure

To carry on the tradition.

All of them? – No, not all,

All, except two

Two which could not have been caught.

Two which would not be caught.

Although it was tried again and again

The two remained in the pond.

All said, they would dieIMG_0860

All said, they would not – make it.

But the two remained in the pond.

Some time has passed since that autumn day

And many cold days have come

Some rain has fallen

And snow has stormed

Hiding the pond from all’s view

So many footprints!

All are fine, though rain still falls

The two are still in the pond

-Presumably dead, though no one will know

Until the breaking of ice.

The time has come

For the sun to shine.

The ice is beginning to melt

Slowly, though,

The process takes time

But through warmth, it will become clear.

The birds have returned; the flowers in bloom

Through faith, the two have survived

And one day soon, the others will join them.

God has brought them new life.

What is Stone Therapy?

Visit to book an appointment or purchase a product.Stone Therapy is the therapeutic use of stones that are either heated or cooled in water with the combination of massage. A variety of different stones (basalt, jade, soapstone…) with different properties (relaxing, revitalizing…) can be used consistently to help relax physical tension and anxiety, soothe aching muscle pain, and ultimately lift your spirit. As ongoing stress can lead to serious health issues, Hot Stone Therapy can be thought of as a preventative measure, and thus should be a part of your health maintenance program.

Hot Stone Therapy originated more than 5000 years ago. Here are some examples of how different cultures used stone therapy. It was used in Ayurvedic medicine in India with the stones being warmed in water or on hot coals to relieve muscle pain and discomfort; Native Americans used stones heated by the sun’s rays (heliotherapy) to ease pain, cramps felt during menstruation. They also used them to heat sweat lodges and believed that this ritual could purify and cleanse the body of disease; in Hawaii lava stones were wrapped in ki leaves to heal and protect the body. As you can see, the therapeutic use of stones has been used all around the world for many years as a healing remedy.

Modern day Hot Stone Therapy is rooted in a practice that started in 1993 by Mary Nelson of Arizona, who was guided by an inner voice that explained the basis of the current techniques used in Hot Stone Therapy. Since then, Hot Stone Therapy has become quite popular, and is viewed as a holistic healing therapy that both relaxes, refreshes, and revitalizes body, mind, and soul.

What are the Benefits of Stone Therapy?

The benefits of Hot Stone Therapy are many, especially if Hot Stone Therapy is received on a regular basis. While the holistic modality of Hot Stone Therapy does not diagnose, prescribe, or treat for a specific condition, it can help to:

  • Improve back, shoulder, and neck pain
  • Alleviate stress and anxiety
  • Improve relaxation and breathing
  • Improve mental clarity and peace of mind
  • Improve lymphatic circulation
  • Improve circulation
  • Release toxins
  • Regulate metabolism
  • Reduce menstrual pain
  • Reduce joint pain
  • Reduce tension headaches
  • Reduce sciatic pain
  • Improve overall well-being and vitality
  • Promote grounding due to the high magnetic field found in basalt stones

Cold Stone Therapy can be combined with Hot Stone Therapy. Contrasting hot with cold dilates and constricts blood vessels, and as a result this process helps to improve circulation, reduce swelling, and improve tissue healing.  Ultimately, the result is a refreshing feeling. Cold Stone Therapy can help with:

  • Local swelling, inflammation, redness
  • Acute injuries
  • Tension headaches
  • Sinus congestion
  • Toning and stimulating the body

Most people can benefit from Hot Stone Therapy, however, you should avoid it if you have:

  • Advanced diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, kidney, liver, or heart disease
  • Acute pneumonia
  • Severe hypertension (high blood pressure) or unstable blood pressure
  • Hemophilia (internal bleeding), phlebitis (inflamed veins)
  • High fever
  • Contagious or infectious conditions
  • Rash or a condition with open wounds

If you have the following local conditions, please inform me so that the treatment would be avoided in these areas:  flare-ups of inflammatory arthritis and nerves, surgery in which nerves have been cut or altered, open wounds, recent burn or frostbite, skin conditions aggravated by heat, and metal implants.

Treatment modifications can be made by reducing the temperature of the stones (and a doctor’s note may be required) with the following conditions: cancer, hypertension, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, pregnancy, kidney disease, heart failure, diabetes, fibromyalgia, elderly people and young children, people with varicose veins and those who are on anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants.

For these reasons, it is important to communicate with me in regards to your health conditions, and also to complete your intake form with care and accuracy. And if at any time during the treatment, you experience any sensitivities, please let me know so we can discuss and so that adjustments can be made. Individuals with medical conditions or health issues are advised to consult a healthcare professional where appropriate. Always take your own health seriously and seek advice when needed.
