Broken pieces
That fell apart
Can’t go back
To where they were
Need some time
Need some space
Need to feel
In a better place
Scattered here
And losing some
Moving on
In a new face

Who am I?
Who am I? A Poem by Darlene Wiggers
Who am I?
Do you really know me?
Do you dare to come near?
You may think I am aloof or arrogant.
But I may be easily misread.
The layers of my onion may fool you.
Will you dismiss me too quickly?
But I may be good for you,
As I am an acquired healthy taste.
Who am I?
Do you really know me?
Do you dare to come near?
I am the roaring sound of a seashell,
Holding memories of long ago.
Do you have the time to hear them?
Will I open up to you?
I may touch you with my stories.
Am I worth the time to you?
Who am I?
Do you really know me?
Do you dare to come near?
I am the fragrant scent of a rose,
Nursed by the summer sun and the rain.
My heart is true and authentic,
But I see that not all hearts are.
So, I have grown thorns to protect me.
Who are you? Will I trust you? Will I let you come in?
Who am I?
Do you really know me?
Do you dare to come near?
I am a hidden gem in my oyster shell,
Sometimes overlooked.
My value is appreciating,
Just like the weight of gold.
Will you take the time to culture me?
I just may climatize to you.
Who am I?
Do you really know me?
Do you dare to come near?
It takes much more time to know me.
You may not “see” me even at second sight.
When I am scared,
I am protected by my turtle shell.
But when I am strong,
I pop like a beautiful firecracker.
Will you miss me in the blink of an eye?
I have so much to offer.
Do you have the patience for me?
It’s your loss, if you walk away,
I know I am worth more than just a few tries.

The Paths are many
The Truth, but one

How Do You Get from A to Z – A Poem by Darlene Wiggers
Survival of the fittest
Or Strength in numbers
Faith or logic
Passion
Pushed or pulled
In Darkness or Light
Resistance or free-flowing
Cohesion
Excuses, procrastination, at the last minute
Guidance, encouragement, a direction
With a plan, or play it by ear
On a wing and a prayer
Proactively, reactively
Risks, regrets
With a bang or a whimper
In leaps and bounds, at a snail’s pace
Fight or flight
Do you wait for things to happen to you?
Or do you purposefully make them happen?
No, you can’t = Yes, I will
Money and power
Love and support
Faith and gratitude
Music, nature
Family and friends
Hustle and bustle
Stress, Anxiety
Lies or Integrity
Emotions that drive you
-Fear, anger, joy, love
Who you know, what you know
Strange coincidences
By chance, an accident
A slippery slope
An act of God
Is it fate or free will?

Perspectives, Perceptions, and Expectations – A Poem by Darlene Wiggers
There are three sides to every story:
Your side,
Their side,
And somewhere in the middle is the truth.
So don’t judge.
You don’t have all the facts.
You don’t know where people have been,
Or where they’re at now.
And on top of that,
Each person’s nature is different:
They may like to talk, they may like to keep to themselves.
They may be more sensitive, or less sensitive than you.
They may be stronger, or weaker than you…
You can apply a spectrum to anything,
And where you lay on it will be different from someone else.
So don’t judge.
Some people judge far too easily and are not very forgiving.
Before you complain about someone else’s faults, take a good look at your own.
Each person has many layers.
And even if someone wears their heart on their sleeve,
You still don’t see it all.
At that moment, they may be strong enough,
And they may be selective in what they choose to reveal.
Someone could be really hurting, and you may not have a clue.
Set high expectations and rise – good words to live by
And usually works.
But sometimes not.
So be prepared to make adjustments.
You may need to lower expectations.
Don’t be so hard on yourself, or others.
You may expect yourself or others to act in a certain way,
Be in a certain place,
Do the appropriate thing –
But maybe that’s not possible at this time.
You may be ready, but at that time others may not be.
Maybe they can’t put on a strong face at that moment.
Maybe they can’t be there for you because they need to be there for themselves.
So give yourself or them a pass, and let it go.
Even if you don’t understand, even if it doesn’t make sense –
Because you don’t really know the whole truth.

THE IMPOSSIBLE – A POEM BY DARLENE WIGGERS
Anything is possible
You just have to believe
When everything lines up
It’s easy to achieve
Removing limitations
Adjusting expectations
Past, present, future
Is just an illusion of time
Forgiving and forgetting
Vulnerability with an open mind
Let loose and see where it takes you
Just give it a try
Positivity flows in the right direction
The plan includes unexpected purposes
Turning balanced changes into small miracles
The impossible CAN be in the future!

The Sequel – A Poem by Darlene Wiggers
Words unspoken
Thoughts that abound
Emotions are reeling
The healing that hurts
Once upon a time
Happily ever after
The sequel is ending
A new story begins
Pain and suffering
Humour that heals
The heart is aching
Searching for hope
Life is for living,
Laughing, loving, and forgiving
Not judging and regretting
But understanding and appreciating

I have always liked poetry, both the reading of it and the writing of it. Here is one written by my younger self, at age 18.
The Pond of Everlasting Hope – a poem by Darlene Novak
In the back of the yard
Exists a pond, a man-made pond.
And in the summer
The pond was alive;
Flowers in bloom
Birds in tune
And the fish – yes – the goldfish
– So many together
So bound, forever
And then autumn fell
And the flowers were gone.
The birds, they too, flew away.

Honk! Honk!
The goldfish removed
To an indoor pond
To safety, to warmth
But a temporary home
All of them secure
To carry on the tradition.
All of them? – No, not all,
All, except two
Two which could not have been caught.
Two which would not be caught.
Although it was tried again and again
The two remained in the pond.
All said, they would die
All said, they would not – make it.
But the two remained in the pond.
Some time has passed since that autumn day
And many cold days have come
Some rain has fallen
And snow has stormed
Hiding the pond from all’s view

So many footprints!
All are fine, though rain still falls
The two are still in the pond
-Presumably dead, though no one will know
Until the breaking of ice.
The time has come
For the sun to shine.
The ice is beginning to melt
Slowly, though,
The process takes time
But through warmth, it will become clear.
The birds have returned; the flowers in bloom
Through faith, the two have survived
And one day soon, the others will join them.
God has brought them new life.

Right – A poem by Darlene Wiggers
Think, feel
Feel, think
Right, left
Left, right
Right is not wrong
But left is not right
Two become one
That is what’s right
Sense makes dollars
Emotions might
Two become one
That is what’s right
Save, spend
Keep, give
What makes sense?
What feels right?
Work to live
Live to work
Live it up
Live for life
One life to live
Or is there more?
Make it right
Make it right
What do you think?
What do you feel?
What will you do?
What will be right?
Life is hard
Life is light
Light is love
Love is light
Head, heart
Truth, dare
What will you do?
What will be right?
Sad, happy
Disease, health
Follow your heart
Your heart is what’s right
That is what’s right!
Right is what’s right!
